Monaco Hickey was asked to create a 210-seat lecture theatre complex within the tightly defined, single level confines of the Alfred Hospital Precinct above a fully operational animal house.
Monaco Hickey’s solution was an elliptical shaped, 600m2 lecture theatre and associated lobby and amenity facilities.
A key goal of this project was to deliver a high quality build while minimising noise and vibrational impacts on breeding laboratory animals.
Monaco Hickey achieved this through skilful co-ordination and interfacing with the animal house’s operators. Disruption was kept to a minimum, with a state-of-the-art lecture theatre successfully delivered in the midst of a fully functioning hospital on time and on budget.
An iconic educational building with state-of-the-art technology, constructed in the heart of one Melbourne’s busiest hospital.
